Trust & standards
Ethics & editorial guidelines
The standards our journalists and contributors follow when reporting, editing, publishing and correcting Nepal Digest journalism.
Last updated August 26th 2026
01
Accuracy comes first
We verify names, dates, figures, quotations and material claims before publication. The level of checking rises with the sensitivity and potential impact of a story. We do not knowingly publish false or misleading information.
02
Corrections and updates
When we make a meaningful factual error, we correct it promptly and add a clear note explaining what changed. Developing stories may be updated as new verified information becomes available. Requests for correction can be sent to corrections@nepaldigest.com.
03
Independence and conflicts
Editors retain final authority over editorial work. Staff and contributors must disclose financial, political, family or professional interests that could reasonably affect their coverage. We disclose relevant relationships to readers and reassign work when independence cannot be protected.
04
Sources and anonymity
We prefer on-the-record sourcing. Anonymity is granted only when information serves a clear public interest and a source may face credible risk. Editors must know the source’s identity, verify the information independently where possible and explain the reason for anonymity to readers. We do not pay sources for information.
05
Fairness, privacy and harm
People and organisations facing significant criticism should have a meaningful opportunity to respond. We minimise unnecessary harm, especially when reporting on children, trauma, health, identity and vulnerable communities. Public interest — not curiosity alone — guides decisions to publish private information.
06
Generative AI
AI tools may assist with transcription, translation, research organisation or brainstorming, but they are not accepted as sources. Journalists must verify all AI-assisted material. No story may be published without accountable human reporting, editing and approval. Materially synthetic images or audio must be clearly labelled.
07
Advertising and supported work
Advertising, sponsorships, affiliate relationships and grant-supported projects are clearly disclosed. Commercial partners cannot review or approve independent editorial conclusions. Branded content, if introduced, will be visually distinct from newsroom journalism.
